Eleven athletes of the club travelled to San Diego for the Regional Cup, the biggest junior event of the season. Three days of bouts, forty-two clubs on the entry list and a crowd that never went quiet — the perfect stage for a young team that has been training for this since January.
The final medal count reads three gold, two silver and four bronze. But numbers only tell half the story. Every one of our fighters went the full distance in at least one bout, and not a single corner had to stop a fight.
"What I saw this weekend was discipline," said head coach Marcus Hale after the closing ceremony. "They kept their shape when they were tired. That is the thing you cannot fake, and it only comes from showing up on the boring Tuesday mornings."
Preparation for the National Qualifiers starts next Monday. The competition group moves to five sessions a week, with an extra conditioning block on Saturdays, and the club will run open sparring days for anyone who wants to test themselves against the squad.
